Unfortunately I bought it about six weeks ago so it's not returnable, but a can opener isn't something I use every day. I just discovered that this one is defective. Given KitchenAid's reputation I definitely expected a better product. I took a video of it spinning and spinning and making no progress, but can't seem to upload it here. Even from the lid you can see I had to keep puncturing it manually, which is tedious and leaves dangerously sharp teeth on the lid.
I have had this can opener for about 8 months. After having to constantly buy can openers because they would rust. I decided to start buying quality. I run my can openers through the dish washer, every time they are used. I thought that this technique was the problem, because after 2 or 3 months the can opener would be rusted. I guess that is not the case, because I have done the same thing with the can opener and it has not rusted yet. Love Kitchenaid. Just watch the price because they price can go between 10 and 30 dollars.
I bought 3 different of these Aqua Sky colored KitchenAid kitchen tools, and I'm bitterly disappointed in the quality of two of them. For the price I paid for this can opener, and being that it is from KitchenAid, I expected it to be better quality. The metal parts are in my opinion thinner than you'd expect in a quality product and the plastic in the handles is inferior and scratch prone.I'm keeping these items because I am in love with the color but I will probably not use them for daily use. OXO Good Grips are far superior in quality for the same price. I will say that these items would be a good value at the price of the red and black models. Apparently there's a 200% upcharge for Aqua Sky blue.
I always opt for more modern and stylish looking, but maybe sometimes cheaper and less brand name, products. But my Ikea can opener broke after like 2 years, so I bought this one thinking "Well, KitchenAid is supposed to be a great brand" and I paid a little more for something that seemed reliable. And yes, this is objectively cuter than most can openers, but it's not my style, so I felt like I was making a trade. This one has never really worked well. It takes me a few tries before it actually starts working. Each time. Same for my boyfriend. It's not me. At least my Ikea one worked! (Until it didn't.) But this thing is just so lackluster and frustrating and doesn't do the simple task at hand. It has one job. And now I have this giant blue can opener for nothing.I refuse to buy yet another can opener, so I guess I'll be struggling with this one for awhile.
I purchased this can opener 03/30/17 and as of 05/15/17 it broke. I stupidly ordered a replacement 05/26/17 not seeing that everyone else was having problems. I assumed I had the only lemon. I had purchased an identical can opener from my local Target and it lasted a few years before dulling. Thought I would get the same quality on Amazon, not the culls from the manufacturer.
08/17. Liking this a lot. i don't like leaving electric can opener out all the time. i need frequently for my dogs -- all on green bean diet (mixed with dry dog food; little to no calories and adds bulk when trimming down on dry food). took me a few to figure it out (has been years since i used manual opener). but once i got it, it's real easy. turns smoothly, easily. good grip. love the color too.UPD 11/17. not liking this anymore. not working consistently. doesnt grip well -- i can try like 5+ times to get it going -- and it doesn't catch. Back to my electric can opener. disappointed i don't see warranty info or how to return/replace after the Amazon easy return period.
I normally really like KitchenAid products but found this can opener to be of poorer quality than I expected. While it looks great, it is relatively light weight and consequently doesn't open cans with the ease of my past can openers. It is still completely usable and should last a few years, but I have to take more care when opening the can than I have had to take with other openers.
opens like a hot knife through butter
