As always, Amazon echo dots are perfect. One thing, the Alexa app still sucks and is very user unfriendly. Amazon - can you fix your app and make the GUI more user friendly? Quit the confusing setup process on your APP?
This version of the dot is the first one I would recommend to someone who is interested in a smart speaker but not willing to spend much. The biggest drawback to the previous generation was the sound quality/loudness. I use my echoes mostly for controlling connected devices and listening to podcasts, so I felt like the older echo dot was OK for most things I would require. But even for casual music listening, it wasn't up to snuff. The new one actually has bass and sounds good to me, but it's not going to sound like a Sonos or anything and I'm not an audiophile but I do think this will satisfy the majority of people's expectations for $50. I also have the $100 full size Echo from 2017 and the new echo dot has about 65% of the sound quality and loudness of that model vs the older dot having about 15% of the sound quality of the full size echo. I have been using this new dot for a few days without any issues. I love it and I think you should get one!
Loved the fuller sound. The only thing I hated is that the plug it plugs into takes up a whole regular outlet.
I have gotten 3 as gifts within the last year and a half. Two of them are used in kitchens, and the "hands free" assistant is so helpful. Answering measurement questions, reading the recipe, having music when you bake are all things that are made so much easier with a dot (I have a Show in my kitchen and that is even better:)The other gift is used by a pre-teen for music, games, trivia, sports scores and weather among other things. A very economic way to get into the Alexa family!
This thing is awesome. It sounds so good. This is my first device in the echo series and I really like that fact that I can use the app to equalize the sound.
The unit is a little bigger than before amazing sound and I like the new look. Power wise you don’t have the USB option anymore just regular plug,
I've waited for a smart home speaker for some time because I wasn't sure which one I should get. Since there are a few to consider. I chose the Echo Dot Alexa for a few reasons. It has a ton of support for smart devices and they have many app skills to pick. The sound quality is great! I was really surprised by how much sound comes for this little device. I am hard of hearing and wear hearing aids and I am very pleased with the sound. I am having a great time connecting it to some of my devices like my Xbox One, Bluetooth headsets, and speaker system. I plan on ordering smart plugs to control my lamps and fan for starters and may look into an Alexa controlled smart TV. All I can say is that Amazon has really made a great upgrade to the previous versions. It was part of the reasons why I picked this one. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a small smart speaker with the ability to control devices and a great assistant.
Hello!!I got two of these as a gift as I already have 2 Echo shows. I felt these are way to good looking than the previous versions looks wise. Other than the looks there seem to be few improvements. Alexa is a software so it continues to improve with every update regardless of the echo model you have. So if you do not care about the looks, you could potentially save a lot of $$ by buying the old or refurbished versions of Echo's.I personally love this new design. Also compare to the Google Home and decide which system you want to invest in. It is a solid competition to the Amazon Echo line. Many people have already gone into the details of the features so I am not going to touch on them.I just wanted to write a few words to recommend this as a gift to anyone or for personal use.Talking to Alexa in a way helps you counter depression, loneliness and can be very fun at times if you keep interacting with it. I have seen people use it to counter these things and it seems to work wonders. The only downside I think is that all these devices need to remain ON all the time and hence can potentially record every word you say and compromise your privacy. If this does not bother you then go for it.All in all a nice product for the smart home that you have been eyeing.Hope this helps.
