I bought this for my wife's birthday in April of 2017 so she could have some fresh herbs and light in the fall. It ran for about two weeks when the pump stopped. I called customer service and they sent the wrong part. I wrote them and sent some pictures and the response was that I should call customer service for the correct part. Customer service now tells me they do not supply that part. I'm putting to much time into this thing. I'll try to get a refund. Check back for updates
I seriously don’t write reviews like this. I don’t write reviews. BUT,I have been grumpy every morning since I knew myself, and this indoor garden thingy changed my mornings.Like I actually don’t care if basil grows up or not, but it makes me curious to see if it grew any. At least some sort of an excitement. One time I saw the first small leaf, dude that was the best morning.Seriously, nice stuff.
I had owned one of the original AeroGarden's roughly 10 years ago. I really loved the idea of it, but eventually got rid of it because it was extremely difficult to clean. That one had 6 pods, this one has 3. I will say that I'm very impressed with this newer model. First of all, it uses LED lights instead of expensive bulbs that had to be bought and replaced frequently with the old model. The light timer and reminder to add the liquid fertilizer is easy to set up by just holding down the timer button until the light turns on and off. I will say that the light is extremely bright, and as such illuminates most of my house in the evening (I have it in the kitchen). The light needs to stay on for 16 hours a day, so I have it set to be on from 5am till 9pm so that the light wont disturb my sleep at night. This model is also much easier to clean than previous versions. The tank fills with plant roots which become tangled up and invade every available space. Luckily this comes apart easily and not a problem to just dump the roots out when ready for the next plants.I had no problem with the three included pods sprouting and growing nicely. What I like most about the Aerogarden is that you don't have to use their pods, you can use your own seeds with a little ingenuity. Just wash the plastic pod inserts and replace the sponge with ones you can buy on Amazon. Cut out paper circles and tape on top. Insert your own seeds. Obviously some plants work better with the Aerogarden than others; you certainly wont be growing any root vegetables. There's lots of blogs that document other users successes growing plants. Using this method is also a great way to start seeds to then transfer to your garden in the spring. One year update: I wanted to say that I have had no issues with my Aerogarden. It is easy to clean and very convenient. Herbs are so expensive at the grocery store and wilt so quickly. I love having fresh basil and parsley right on my counter top! The light, pump, everything, continues to work just as day one. The only thing is I did need to buy more of the liquid fertilizer. I am still very happy with it!
Always want to try hydroponics gardening, got this during Thanksgiving sale with an acceptable price. This is very easy to assemble and easy to use. I use RO system water for my AeroGarden. My AeroGarden comes with 3 pre-seeded pots, Genovese Basil, Dill, and Curly Parsley.Growing journal:12/1/2016: I started my AeroGarden.12/8/2016: sprouts germinated within a week, and I could remove the plastic cover lid, they grown very fast, and you can see from my pictures attached below, Basil is over 1" tall, Dill is 3 inch tall, and the Curly Parsley isn't Curley Parsley!!!12/21/2016: The "Curley Parsley" was the largest one in the system, it looks like lettuce more than curly parsley, the Dill cannot stand, Basil doesn't grow much at all. I also place other plants next to the AreoGarden to share the light.12/28/2016: The "Lettuce" is way too big that the Dill has no way to stand! Basil is only 3" tall. I harvest those largest leaves of the lettuce keep it remain in the pot, hopefully it will grow again. (My other plants still sharing the light, I only moved them away for taking that picture.) I wasted the lettuce and eat them fresh, taste good. I'm not really into herbs, so it's good that they put the wrong seed in it, I really prefer to grow lettuce.Pros:1. Light turn on automatically itself once you plugged in, it runs 16 hours every day from the same time you plugged in.2. You can share the light with other plants, simply put other plants next to the AeroGarden.Cons:1. Noisy, the air pump is kind of noisy, it is fine in the first few hours, but then it started making noise.2. Not enough space for plants growing, as you can see the lettuce used a lot of space, you can imagine how much space they got when all 3 pots are lettuce.
I ordered this for my husband for his Christmas present, we have enjoyed a lot of very fresh basil (parsley grows much slower, but basil, WOW). We also have a DIY ghost pepper plant enjoying the light which had a terrible reputation for not sprouting, it has full leaves and we expect this to be producing peppers, so the LED light is great, even if your plant isn't in the tank system. As much as we love it, we are now facing a full mechanical failure in the aerator. We did google how to correct this, cleaned as directed, but were unable to get the air flow again.I have just gotten off the phone with the Aerogarden support (1-800-476-9669) who has informed me that they have redesigned the aerator tube to have a larger output. At no cost to us, they are sending a new tube and a tool to help get the housing apart to fix it. She told me, in the meantime, to blow air into the water once a day to keep the plants going. I was going to leave a one-star review, a failure on a product after such a small amount of time is unacceptable, but the service was friendly, located in the US and quick to assist.
